Dr. Sara Civetti

Meet your therapist

Hello and welcome! I’m Dr. C – a native New Yorker who has happily called Gainesville home since 2014. In my work, I try to show up as a real person first—warm, genuine, and deeply invested in creating a space where you can feel safe enough to be fully yourself.

I believe therapy works best when it feels human. That means building a relationship where you feel seen, heard, and supported—not judged or rushed. My goal is to meet you exactly where you are and walk alongside you as you sort through what’s feeling heavy, confusing, or stuck.

I also try to practice what I encourage. Mindfulness and meditation are part of my daily life and help me stay grounded and present.

“Healing begins with feeling

seen, safe, and understood.”

-Dr. C

Outside of work, you’ll usually find me swimming, paddle boarding, practicing yoga, traveling, cooking, baking, or spending time outdoors. Nature helps me reset and reconnect.

And then there’s Hattie—my beloved dog and unofficial “co-therapist.” She’s a constant reminder of the importance of presence, joy, and unconditional support. I deeply value time with family and friendsfriends and family, and believe strongly in the healing power of interpersonal connection.

In our work together, I aim to create a space that feels collaborative and real. Healing doesn’t have to feel clinical or intimidating. When it fits, I’ll even bring in warmth and humor—because growth often happens more naturally when we feel comfortable enough to breathe, reflect, and be ourselves.

Experience & Credentials

My path to becoming a psychologist began at Binghamton University, where I initially studied English with an emphasis in Creative Writing before adding Psychology as a second major. Blending creativity with science shaped the way I understand people — not just through symptoms or diagnoses, but through their stories. It was during this time that I discovered my passion for helping others recognize their strengths and potential, even in the face of adversity.

I went on to earn my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Florida Institute of Technology in 2014. Throughout my graduate training, I had the opportunity to work in a wide range of clinical settings, including college counseling centers, community mental health clinics, substance use treatment programs, inpatient behavioral health units, and primary care clinics. These diverse experiences allowed me to develop flexibility, cultural awareness, and a deep respect for each person’s unique journey.

I completed both my internship and postdoctoral training within the Veterans Affairs Medical System before accepting a full-time psychologist position at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center. There, I worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings, served on a clinical training committee, and held a courtesy appointment at the University of Florida supervising Psychiatry Residents. With over 10,000 hours of experience providing individual and group psychotherapy, I bring a strong foundation in evidence-based treatment, psychological assessment, and collaborative care.

In 2020, I transitioned into private practice, where I’ve found great meaning in offering care in a more personal and intentional setting. My approach is thoughtful, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based strategies — while always honoring the human experience at the center of the work.

Seeking therapy can feel vulnerable, and choosing the right provider matters. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard, respected, and supported as we work together toward meaningful change. I look forward to the opportunity to work alongside you.
